Pico do Carvão
On the way towards the Caldeira das Sete Cidades and the west coast, you will find the Pico do Carvão (825 m), which has a viewpoint that provides spectacular panoramic views across the northern and southern coasts as well as the centre of the island with its all dominating mountain range of Serra de Agua de Pau, where the huge Lagoa de Fogo is situated. The views reach as far as the town of Ribeira Grande on the north coast and in the immediate surroundings, you get the opportunity to see, besides some other small lakes, the beautiful lakes of Carvão, Canário and Rasa, surrounded by exuberant lush-green vegetation, with Japanese cedars and tree ferns prevailing.
