Ponta do Queimado
This high headland marks the western end of the island. It features a lighthouse, located on a steep cliff at the end of a less than 2 km long track through a bizarre volcanic landscape, resulting from the eruption of the Pico de Santa Barbara in 1761. There is also a nice natural swimming pool and both sides of the cape are strewn with beautiful coves, protected by more than 100 m high cliffs, and small caves, washed out by the sea. An old whale lookout, the Miradouro da Farol da Serreta, is a popular viewpoint, providing fabulous views over the coast; on clear days you can even see the outlines of the neighbour island Graciosa.
