Other places of interest in the historic centre

When strolling along the typical narrow streets of the centre, you will encounter many more beautiful examples of urban architecture in the Baroque or neo-classical style, the most remarkable of which are the town houses and palaces of Fonte Bela, Marques Moreira, Luís Bettencourt, Carlos Bicudo, Thomas Hickling and Carlos Faria e Maria Aguiar – most of them serving different functions today.

For everybody who is hooked on religious structures, Ponta Delgada has still more to offer than those we mentioned in particular, such as the Church and Convent of Santa Bárbara, the Chapel and Convent of Santa Ana and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, You might also want to look out for the remains of Fort and Chapel of Mãe de Deus, from where a beautiful view of the town is provided.
