Madalena do Pico
Set all around its coasts, Pico’s small towns and villages are divided into the three municipalities of Madalena do Pico in the west, Lajes do Pico in the south and São Roque do Pico in the north, with their administrative seats being located in the towns of the same name.
Due to its important ferry connection with Horta, the beautiful capital of Faial, Madalena is generally considered the island’s main town and fishing harbour. Besides its 17th-century parish church, which dominates the centre of the town, there is not much sightseeing to do. Nevertheless, Madalena is a friendly little town with a charming old harbour from where beautiful views over the Atlantic and the tiny islets of Deitado and Em Pé can be enjoyed.
